Baseball, Fourth of July go hand in hand

As America's pastime, it's only natural that a number of Major League Baseball's memorable moments have taken place on the nation's Independence Day. Lou Gehrig delivered his famous "Luckiest Man" speech on July 4, 1939. Both Nolan Ryan and Phil Niekro recorded their 3,000th strikeout on the same date in 1980 and 1984, respectively. From Dave Righetti's no-hitter to Jim Tabor hitting two grand slams in one day, exciting action and historical performances have led to fireworks both on and off the field.
